Mermaid’s View: Wanting to paint a playful portrait, I chose to use the view of the mythological mermaid. The painting is half in and out of the ocean water to reflect the half-human, half-fish body of the creature. A sandy, murky undersea scene lifts into rolling blue ripples and the open sky, embodying a world of possibility that a mermaid could never fully know. The lower half of the painting depicts the opaque view of life under the sea, hinting at the secrets of the depths we may never know as humans. In the center of the painting, the two worlds mix together between sea and air to create a hazy combination of the sand below and blue from the sky above.
