Rusty: Layers of clouds roll, surging and swelling across the sky. Below the dramatic sky, a dark thin line of forest in the distance separates earth and sky. Even the trace of dark trees highlights the contrasting colors of the darkening shades of blue and deep yellow of the marshland grass within the land and sky. Likewise, the bold stance of the billowing clouds contrasts the near still, only slightly wind-whipped grass. Slight dips and shadows within the painting show the rows and layers of marshland grass. A simple stream of sea cuts through the meadow-like marsh before splitting into separate paths. A viewer can gaze upon this painting and connect the color of the grass both to the lowcountry and also to a more pastoral setting.
