So what’s up with the new website?
So what’s up with the new website? Some of you have been wondering what I have been up to for the past few months. I have been working on my new website and adding new features to it. I tried to keep the website simple, user friendly, and make it easy to navigate. The look of the website is clean and very simple, but the back end is complex. I have marked up my website and images to be detected as creative work and paintings. I did this so search engines like Google and Yahoo will understand that most of my pictures are paintings, and not just regular images. I have also marked up events, blog posts, and articles. This may sound simple, but many artists’ websites do not include these features, but they should! The first new feature I would like to tell you about is the Paintings page...

6 Reasons Why Artists Should Use WordPress
Artists – did you know that the average cost for a developer to create a custom website is $800-$3000? Do you want to know the secret of how I paid less than $60 a year for my website? Throughout this article, I will share my secret! I recently did some research and calculated how much artists spend on their websites. The study was based on the most commonly used companies that provide websites for artists, like FASO- “fine art studios” and folio links. I was shocked when I added up the numbers. The cost was an average of $283.66 a year, and that is only for the basic service which does not include all of the features. Some of the sites limit the amount of images you are allowed to display, unless of course, you upgrade to their next package, which averages $431.66 a year. Such companies try to impress you with...

Painting of the Old Well at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill
Today I’m featuring one of my favorite paintings of all time: the Old Well at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Enjoy! With this painting I did several small field studies before I decided which one to paint. My studies were done during the evening when the sun was going down and also in the morning around 5:30 – 7:00am. I am always trying to capture the right moment. This particular painting is based on an evening when spring was coming to life, the flowers were bright red, the trees were bright green, and it was a clear day with no clouds in sight. I first started this painting by making a sketch to determine the composition of the painting. Secondly, I did the first layer without adding too much detail on the painting. I was filling in the colors in order to have a better idea of...

How to paint a Marsh Painting
Today I am going to show you how to paint a beautiful Marsh Painting. By the end of this tutorial you will have a beautiful marsh painting. First of all, you will need some materials. I like to use Georgian paint because it is not as thick as others, and it is very easy to work with. Below are the colors I used to paint this marsh scene: Art materials Ultramarine Blue or French Ultramarine Manganese Blue – M. Graham Titanium White Any type of Red Cadmium Yellow My favorite brand of brushes to use is Princeton. Princeton brushes are very easy to use, and they last a long time, presuming you take care of them. For this painting I used the Filbert Summit 6100 FB Series’ number 6 and 8, 2 Round, and 12 Bright 6100B. I am using a 20 x 20 inch Fredrix Red Label Canvas, but you...

Why is the sky blue
Why is the sky blue? As a landscape artist, most of my paintings are focused on showing the beauty of the sky. While I was in the middle of the marshland studying every inch of it and painting a field study, I started to paint the sky on my painting. I started to focus on the details of the sky and clouds and every color that I could distinguish. That day, the sky was a beautiful blue. The blue looked so alive and relaxing. I started wondering and asking myself why the sky is blue. Oddly enough I could not figure it out, even though I have painted the sky so many times. You would figure that I would know and that other artists would know why the sky is blue and why all the beautiful sunsets are the colors that they are. So I started to read some books...
